How to Make Our Iced Blueberry Matcha Latte

After the social media world discovered strawberry matcha lattes last year, it’s now time for a new creation. Because who says that other berries can’t be mixed in with the ever-laid-back matcha? No one, exactly!

Especially since it’s warm again and summer has slowly arrived, I keep seeing people walking through the city with all sorts of iced latte creations. Besides strawberry and mango matcha lattes, I’ve also come across the iced blueberry matcha latte.

This trendy drink not only looks fantastic, but it also tastes great too. Of course, I immediately needed to try it the second I laid eyes on it. Even though my trusted barista is probably happy about my daily order, my wallet isn’t. So I needed a recipe for how I can easily make an iced blueberry matcha latte at home. And surprise… it’s not difficult at all.

The most important step is making a purée from fresh or frozen blueberries. This will be the first layer to your latte. So, once it’s ready, simply pour it into your glass. Then, add ice cubes and your milk of choice. If you want a little extra touch, give the purée a little stir to create a nice color gradient.

As the purée cools down a bit, you will have time to prepare the matcha. To do this, sift the powder into a small bowl and pour hot water over it. Stir the powder vigorously with a matcha whisk that it gets nice and foamy. Finally, pour the matcha over the glass with the purée and milk. Done! And isn’t it beautiful?

If you can’t get enough of the fresh and refreshing drinks, try our fizzy strawberry basil lemonade, vegan breakfast smoothie, and banana & oats coffee breakfast smoothie.

Equipment

  • 1 matcha bowl
  • 1 matcha whisk

Ingredients

  • 2 oz fresh blueberries
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1-2 tsp maple syrup to taste
  • 1 tsp matcha powder
  • ½ cup hot water
  • ice cubes
  • ¾ cup milk of your choice

Instructions

  • Add the fresh blueberries, water, and maple syrup to a small saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium heat and stir until the blueberries soften and burst. Lightly crush them with a spoon to release their juices. Let the mixture cool slightly.
  • Purée the mixture until smooth using an immersion blender and set aside.
  • Sift the matcha powder into a bowl to avoid clumps. Pour ½ cup of hot (not boiling!) water over it. Whisk vigorously with a matcha whisk or milk frother until the matcha is frothy and smooth.
  • Pour the blueberry purée into a glass. Fill it about one-third full with ice cubes. Now pour in the milk of your choice, but leave room for the matcha. Slowly pour the matcha on top to create a nice layered effect.
  • Stir the latte well before enjoying it cold.
