Our Fizzy Strawberry Basil Lemonade: An Effortless Concoction

Strawberries are in season! So head to the store or farmer’s market and grab some plump, juicy berries before they lose their flavor. Strawberries are great when fresh, in a jam, blended, or baked. Today, we are keeping it simple and adding them to down to earth with our strawberry basil lemonade.

But, rather than stirring this lemonade, you’ll blend it. Begin by washing, hulling, and chopping two cups of strawberries. Once ready, add them to a blender with a few basil leaves and the juice of half a lemon, or puree them with an immersion blender. If you lightly crush the basil leaves beforehand, they will release more aroma and add an herbaceous scent to your drink. If you can’t do without something sweet, add a dash of agave syrup.

Now comes the crucial step: Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve so you don’t have any seeds or fibers in your glass later. Top the mixture with cold sparkling water and stir. If you like it more intense, use less water and more puree. Garnish with a basil leaf and ice cubes. Your summer refreshment is ready to be sipped on!

Fizzy Strawberry-Basil Lemonade

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup ripe strawberries
  • 1 handful fresh basil leaves
  • ½ organic lemon
  • 3 cups sparkling water
  • ice cubes

Instructions
 

  • Wash and hull the strawberries, then roughly chop them. Crush the basil leaves by hand.
  • Add strawberries, basil, lemon juice, and basil leaves to a blender or finely puree everything with an immersion blender.
  • Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove seeds and fibers. Top with cold sparkling water and stir well.
  • Serve the lemonade with ice cubes and garnish with a few basil leaves.

Notes

Add some agave syrup if you prefer it sweeter.
