When it comes to our favorite desserts, brownies are right up there at the top. Especially espresso brownies with browned butter. Plus, this recipe combines the taste of something sweet with invigorating caffeine. It is, suffice to say, perfect for an afternoon slump.
Our Recipe for Espresso Brownies with Browned Butter
The best time of day? Definitely the afternoon coffee break. Even more perfect when there are homemade brownies to compliment your afternoon cup of Joe. But we’re not drinking the coffee ourselves: We’re simply adding it as an ingredient to the brownies. And for even more flavor, brown butter is also added to the batter. That might sound unusual, but it tastes really good and really brings out the best in the espresso.
With all that compley flavor, baking espresso brownies with browned butter is a simple affair. You just need the right ingredients. Before baking, make sure you have some dark chocolate with at least 70 percent cacao, butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, flour, and salt.
Start by making a strong espresso. Then heat the butter in a saucepan, stirring constantly, until it turns light brown and starts to foam. Chop the chocolate and add it and the espresso to the brown butter. Stir the ingredients well until the chocolate is completely melted.
Now, in a separate bowl, combine the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Once ready, slowly pour in the chocolate-butter mixture, and stir everything into a smooth batter. Stir in the flour and a pinch of salt and then fold it into the dry ingredients. Pour the batter into a baking dish and bake for about 30 minutes. Test your brownies for doneness by sticking a toothpick into the center. With this recipe, however, the toothpick should not come out clean and spotless from the batter. Make sure that there’s stil some crumbs on the toothpick, this means that your brownies are still soft and gooey consistency. This will make for a perfect bite each time!
