Sweet Watermelon Bread
Do you love watermelon? If so, we have just the sweet treat for you! Not only does our fluffy watermelon bread look impressively similar to the juicy summer fruit itself, but it's also refreshingly different from your usual bread recipes.

Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup corn starch
- 3/4 stick butter
- 6 1/4 cups flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 tsp dry yeast
- 1/3 cup apple syrup
- 1/2 cup watermelon syrup
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips
- as needed black food coloring
Instructions
- Combine the milk, vanilla extract, salt, corn starch, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat and cook until a pudding-like consistency forms. Remove the saucepan from the heat, cover with plastic wrap, and let cool.
- Knead the flour, sugar, dry yeast, and cooled milk pudding with the dough hooks of a hand mixer until a smooth dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 4 pieces of different weights: 4 oz, 7 oz, 14 oz, and 28 oz. Color the 4 oz piece of dough with the black food coloring. Leave the 7 oz piece of dough uncolored. Use the apple syrup to color the 14 oz piece of dough green. Use the watermelon syrup to color the 28 oz piece of dough pink and gently fold the chocolate chips into the dough. Cover all the dough pieces and let rise for 1 hour.
- Roll the black dough out into a long, thin roll, cut it into 4 equal strands, and lay the 4 strands on top of each other in a star shape. Roll the green dough out into a circle and place it on top of the black dough star. Roll the uncolored piece of dough out into a circle. Brush water over the green dough circle and place the uncolored dough circle on top. Roll the pink dough into a ball. Brush water over the uncolored dough circle and place the pink dough ball on top of it in the middle. Fold the black, uncolored, and green dough up over the pink dough ball and seal the ends.
- Grease 2 glass heat-resistant bowls (8-inch diameter) and place the watermelon dough ball in 1 of the bowls with the sealed end facing down. Place the second greased bowl on top of the other bowl and let the dough sit for 45 minutes. Place the glass bowl contraption on a baking tray and place a heavy pan on top of the top bowl to weigh it down. Transfer everything to a preheated oven and cook at 300°F for 1 hour 30 minutes. Let the bread cool down and carefully remove the glass bowls before serving.
