Drunken Chicken with Homemade Potato Wedges
An unusual, yet wonderfully tasty, evening meal combining chicken and beer.
Equipment
- Drinking glass
- Deep square pan
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken
- 1 glass beer
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp rosemary
- 1 tsp paprika
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup beer
- 8 oz fingerling potatoes
- olive oil
- salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Fill a drinking glass with beer and place the chicken upright on top of it so that the glass is slightly inside the cavity. Combine the ingredients for the marinade and brush it over the chicken.
- Place the drinking glass with the chicken in the middle of a deep, square pan. Cut the fingerling potatoes in half lengthwise and spread them around the chicken. Drizzle olive oil over the potatoes and season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer the pan with the chicken to a cold oven and cook at 325°F for 1 hour, making sure that the chicken remains upright throughout the cooking process. It's best not to preheat the oven as it will overheat the drinking glass.

Notes
It may look a little strange seeing the chicken sitting up on a glass, but the steam from the beer will give your bird an extra juicy finish. After all that beer, let's just hope our drunken chicken doesn't fall over too early in the oven!
