Strawberry Slushy: How to Make it Yourself

Slushies are not just a refreshment, they embody summer, sun, and joie de vivre. Did you know this humble gas station snack actually has a major history behind it? The idea of combining fruit and ice into a refreshing treat goes back all the way to ancient Persia, where frozen sorbets imbibed with rose water and fruit were already used to beat the heat.

In the 20th century, when electric blenders and ice cream machines began their triumphal march into consumer culture, slushies became popular. Soon, the unassuming snack had found a home in amusement parks, summer festivals, convenience stores, and gas stations.

But, slushies are also very easy to make at home. All you need are ice cubes, sugar, lemon juice, and a fruit of your choice. Raspberries, watermelon, and/or peach can be used just as well to make these homemade slushies! Alternatively, you can simply mix and match fruit juices.

Once you’ve decided which direction to go, simply blend all of the ingredients together. Your slushy will be ready in just a matter of seconds.

Perfect for hot days and long summer breaks, this is also the perfect place for your little ones to start learning how to use the kitchen. The simple deliciousness of our slushies are sure to delight everyone.

Just like the pools have adult swim, so too do we need to leave these libations to the grown-ups: sparkling Aperol punch, green margarita, and watermelon spritz.
