Red Velvet Cake in a Jar
Ingredients
For the batter:
- 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 pinch salt
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 large egg room temperature
- ⅔ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp red food coloring
- ½ tsp white wine vinegar
For the cream:
- 3.5 oz cream cheese
- 2½ tbsp butter room temperature
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup & 2 tbsp powdered sugar
Additionally:
- Cocoa powder for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour with baking powder and cocoa powder. Sift thoroughly.
- Add salt, sugar, the egg, oil, buttermilk, food coloring, and vinegar. Mix everything into a smooth batter.
- Divide the batter evenly into 12 muffin cups or a muffin tin. Bake for 15–20 minutes. To check if they’re ready, insert a toothpick into the center — if it comes out clean, the muffins are ready.
- As the cupcakes cool, cream the cream cheese and butter together. Add the vanilla extract and powdered sugar, and mix until smooth.
- Now layer cake and cream in 8 dessert glasses. Dust the dessert with cocoa powder, and serve.
