Chocolate Chicken, Chocolate Bacon & Chocolate Steak — It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!

Chocolate and meat, ain't it neat?! We certainly think so, which is why we've developed the following 3 recipes that will have you rushing to both aisles at the grocery store to pick up all the necessary ingredients. You'll never have to make the agonizing choice between sweet and savory again!

1. Brownie Fried Chicken

You'll Need:

For the chicken:

  • 12 chicken drumsticks
  • salt & pepper to taste

For the brownie batter:

  • 4 eggs
  • 8 fl oz milk
  • 5 tbsp cacao powder
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 7 oz flour
  • 3 oz sunflower oil
  • oil for frying

For the dip:

  • 6 oz honey
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • salt to taste

Here's How:

1.1 Preheat the oven to 300°F. Place the drumsticks on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 30 minutes.

1.2. Prepare the brownie batter while the chicken cools. Separate the eggs and mix the egg yolks with milk, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, flour, and sunflower oil. Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff and then fold into the chocolate mixture. Coat the drumsticks in the brownie batter.

1.3 Heat a pot of oil to 350°F and fry the coated drumsticks for 4-5 minutes.

1.4 To prepare the dipping sauce, warm the honey, add the seasonings, and mix well. Serve the cooled dipping sauce with the chocolate chicken and enjoy!

2. Chocolate Bacon

You'll Need (for 6):

  • 6 wooden skewers
  • 6 slices of bacon
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 3 oz milk chocolate
  • 2 oz white chocolate

Here's How:

2.1 Warm a pan over medium heat and cook the bacon on both sides until cooked through. Once the bacon has cooled, stick a wooden skewer through each slice.

2.2 Melt each chocolate in a water bath and stir 1 tsp of coconut oil into each type of chocolate. Completely coat the bacon slices with milk chocolate.

2.3 Drizzle white chocolate over the chocolate bacon and briefly refrigerate before serving so that the chocolate can set.

3. Steak with Chili Chocolate Sauce

You'll Need:

  • 2 beef steaks (6 oz each)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 shallots, minced
  • 7 fl oz beef broth
  • 4 star anise
  • 10 juniper berries
  • 1 rosemary sprig
  • juice of ½ orange
  • 3 fl oz red wine
  • 3 oz dark chocolate (at least 70% cacao)
  • salt & chili powder to taste
  • sesame seeds

Here's How:

3.1 Sweat the shallots in oil in a saucepan over medium heat, pour in the beef broth, and add the star anise, juniper berries, rosemary, orange juice, and red wine. Let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes and then pass it through a sieve before adding the chocolate. Stir the chocolate into the sauce until it is completely melted. Keep the pan on the stove, but turn off the heat. Season the chocolate sauce with salt and chili powder and keep stirring the sauce, without letting it come to a boil, while you prepare the steaks.

3.2 In a separate pan over medium heat, cook the steaks on both sides for about 20 minutes at 250°F. Place the steaks in the chocolate sauce and then plate them. Pour the sauce over the steaks, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and serve with steak fries for an exceptional meal.

Maybe you still need some convincing to realize that chocolate and meat go together like peanut butter and jelly, so if that's the case, get yourself to a kitchen stat so you can see for yourself — you won't regret it!
