Magical Winter Snow Globe Cake

If you're dreaming of a white Christmas but one look out the window tells you that that's probably not happening, you've come to the right place! We're going to show you how to create a veritable winter wonderland right in the comfort of your own home – and you can eat it too! That's right, we're talking about an edible snow globe that consists of a luxurious, moist chocolate cake to form the base of the snow globe and an intricate dome made out of gelatin that sits atop the cake and houses the most adorable decorations from here to the North Pole!

You'll Need:

For the gelatin dome:

  • clear liquid gelatin
  • 1 balloon
  • 1 clothespin

For the chocolate cake:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1⅔ cups sugar
  • ⅔ cup vegetable oil
  • 2¾ cups flour
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup milk

For the frosting:

  • 7 oz coconut cream
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream
  • shredded coconut to decorate

Here's How:

1. Prepare the unflavored gelatin powder according to the instructions on the package.

2. Blow up a balloon, rinse it under lukewarm water, pat it dry, and brush a bit of cooking oil over it. Pull the balloon through the gelatin so that it's almost entirely coated in it. Wait until the gelatin has dried a little and repeat the same process 2 more times.

3. Hang the coated balloon on a clothesline for about 24 hours.

4. Preheat the oven to 350°F. For the chocolate cake, whisk together the eggs, vegetable oil, and sugar until frothy. Combine the flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder and fold it into the egg mixture together with the milk.

5. Line a cake pan with parchment paper and pour in the cake batter. Transfer the pan to the oven and bake for 40 minutes. Allow the cake to cool on a rack and then place it on a cake stand.

6. For the frosting, whip the coconut cream, powdered sugar, and heavy cream until nice and creamy and then spread it over the cake.

7. Sprinkle shredded coconut over the entire cake to make it look even more like a winter wonderland.

8. Take the balloon with the set gelatin from the clothesline and cut the ballon open so that air can escape and you can easily remove it. Then carefully straighten the edge of the dome with scissors so it can be placed on top of the cake.

9. Decorate the wintery landscape with charming decorations such as a small house, reindeer, or snowy tree.

10. Put the dome on top of the cake and you've got yourself a beautiful winter cake!

If this isn't one of the most gorgeous and unique cakes of all time, what is? A truly festive highlight, this edible snow globe will wow anyone who sees (and eats) it!
