Eye-Catching Salami, Ham, And Cheese Sandwich Pyramid

Most people have heard of the massive pyramids built by the ancient Egyptians, but what you might not know is that most of them were originally covered in white limestone and that their tips were topped with gold leaf. To this day, the pyramids are famous landmarks that continue to amaze, even after thousands of years! Inspired by these impressive structures, we created our very own sandwich pyramid with a brilliant cream cheese coating and crowned with a golden cheddar cheese peak. What a perfectly eye-catching dish for a buffet!

Yield: 15 servings
Prep Time: 45 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 70 minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy

You'll Need:

  • 54 slices of bread, toasted
  • 9 cups cream cheese
  • 2 heads of lettuce
  • 31 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 10 slices of ham
  • 36 slices of salami
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 5 tomatoes, sliced

Here's How:

1. For the sandwich pyramid, toast the slices of bread. If you'd like to toast multiple slices at once, you can use this handy trick: position the oven rack just above a baking tray in the oven. Insert the slices of bread you're toasting into the slots of the oven rack, turn on the oven, and you can toast bread way more efficiently!

2. Spread cream cheese on 1 side of each slice of bread. Top 10 slices of bread with lettuce, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 1 slice of ham, a few slices of tomato, and another slice of bread covered in cream cheese. Use a square plate as a guide and cut the crusts off of the sandwiches, making sure they're all the same size.

3. For the second round of sandwiches, top 16 slices of bread with lettuce, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 2 slices of salami, and a few slices of cucumber. Top the sandwiches with 1 slice of bread covered in cream cheese, then cut off the crusts.

4. Arrange 9 ham sandwiches in a 3 x 3 square. Place 4 salami sandwiches in a 2 x 2 square centered on top of the ham sandwiches, then place the last ham sandwich on top of the salami sandwich layer.

5. Cut the remaining salami sandwiches diagonally into eighths and position them on top of and around the other sandwiches to create a pyramid. Spread cream cheese over the edges of the sandwiches.

6. Take the last 2 slices of bread covered in cream cheese and top them each with 1 slice of cheddar cheese. Cut 1 of them into 4 equally sized triangles and place the uncut one on top of the pyramid.

7. Spread some cream cheese over 1 edge of each of the quartered pieces of bread and position them on top of the pyramid to form the tip, securing them in place with the cream cheese.

8. Cut triangles out of the remaining slices of cheddar cheese and use them to decorate the top of your impressive sandwich pyramid.

Who would've thought that you could build such a massive pyramid out of cream cheese, some sandwiches, and cheddar cheese? This food marvel is fit for a pharaoh and will definitely take your party buffets to the next level!
