Salmon Gratin: A Quick Fish Dish from the Oven

Unlike other intense fish-heavy dishes, our salmon gratin has a manageable ingredients list that most likely will not have you going off the beaten path or wayward in the grocery aisle. Besides salmon fillets and cream, you’ll need to have milk, garlic, dill, tomato paste, and a few basic ingredients like lemon, salt, and pepper on hand. Once you’re fully stocked, you’ll need a meagre 40 minutes of prep time.

Making a great and quick salmon gratin really starts at the store. When choosing your salmon fillet, opt for a skinless variety. This way you don’t have to remove the skin yourself during preparation and you can save a lot of time cooking.

At home, start by washing the fish thoroughly and patting it dry. Season your filets with salt and pepper and place it in a baking dish. Once the salmon is prepped, you can take care of the sauce. To do this, mix cream with milk, a little cornstarch, lemon juice, garlic, dill, and tomato paste into a smooth sauce. Pour this over the fish and bake at 390°F for 25 minutes.

If you’re looking for a suitable side dish to go with your salmon gratin, there are a number of sides that pair exceptionally with it. For a light, low-carb option, cauliflower rice is perfect. Parsley potatoes, mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta are other delicious side dishes. You can take care of the preparation while the salmon is cooking in the oven. If you want a little veg in your gratin, no worries. Adding fresh spinach is a simple way to make sure to get your greens! We suggest around seven ounces of spinach to pair with the dish. After thoroughly washing the spinach, place it in the baking dish first, followed by the salmon.

Gratins like this salmon gratin are quick to make and often require only a few ingredients. Thus, they are perfect when you need a quick meal in a pinch. If you’re looking for other just as simple yet satisfying dishes, you need to try our oven-baked macaroni alla Mamma, chicken and carrot casserole, and oven roast beef stuffed with potatoes au gratin.
