3 Potato Dishes That Could Win Awards

Oatmeal is a true superfood and a daily breakfast staple for many. While it’s usually enjoyed sweet, it tastes just as delicious savory. It’s true that oats are culinary all-rounder, and that means that toppings can be just as diverse! Let your imagination run wild! Our recipe introduces a particularly tasty combination: oatmeal with avocado and olive oil.

Oatmeal with Avocado & Olive Oil: A Superfood Combo

In this recipe, we combine oatmeal with avocado and olive oil, two ingredients that are also very healthy. Oatmeal provides you with a large amount of protein, fiber, and vitamins K, B1, and B6, as well as minerals such as potassium, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, and calcium. Avocados are no less healthy and, in addition to the vitamins mentioned, are also rich in unsaturated fatty acids, just like olive oil. All in all, our oatmeal is a delicious vitamin bomb that has anti-inflammatory effects and is sure to keep you full for a long time.

While common on our breakfast tables, it actually comes from the U.K. where it is known as ‘porridge.’ Porridge actually originated in Scotland, where oats, along with barley, are among the typical grains. Scottish working-class families ate porridge for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So, like many other delicious dishes, it was once considered “poor man’s food.”

There’s also an old custom from Scotland: Only stir the porridge with your right hand and clockwise! This is said to bring good luck. Conversely, stirring with your left hand counterclockwise brings bad luck. So, keep this in mind when whipping up your next batch.

Our recipe provides a great base for your own creations. Want to combine your savory porridge with sprouts and egg? Sprinkle it with feta? Add some olives and cucumber slices? Or maybe some salmon? Go for it! And if you’re craving it a little sweet, we recommend our pink oatmeal, lemon baked oats, and our Mounds overnight oats recipes.
