Mini Hot Dog Fondue: A Modern Take On A Retro Classic

If the summer heat is starting to get to you, one good technique is to picture yourself in a cooler environment. Imagine yourself on the winter slopes of the Rocky Mountains; you're at the top of the piste looking out over the frozen expanse. Brr! Doesn't that feel better already! In the distance, you notice a pillar of smoke slowly drifting from a petite wooden chalet. Inside, seasoned skiers mingle at the bar and enjoy a well-earned glass of something strong. But what's that? You could do with a little bite to eat right now? Well, we've put a fresh spin on a retro skiing-inspired classic for whenever hunger strikes. The Mini Hot Dog Fondue is perfect for sharing with friends, too!

You'll need:

  • hot dog wieners
  • puff pastry
  • 2/3 cup cream cheese
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 cup grated cheddar
  • chives for decoration

Here's how:

  1. Decide on the number of hot dog wieners and the amount of puff pastry you want to use, depending on your needs. Cut the puff pastry into three roughly equal parts and wrap each one around a hot dog wiener.
  2. Cut the hot wieners wrapped in pastry into three. Push out each portion of hot dog wiener so that they're sticking out slightly from the pastry.
  3. Season the cream cheese with a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper before mixing it with some of the cheddar. Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top.
  4. Bake the hot dog wieners and the dip for 20 minutes at 350°F in a convection oven.

It's as easy as that, and you don't need to be at a ski resort to enjoy this '70s culinary throwback either. Easy to share, this delightful snack is best enjoyed at movie nights and garden parties. Dig in!
