Is it lasagna? Is it a hoagie? Is it garlic bread? It's time to open your mind to some serious possibilities, because this mouthwatering recipe is all of the above!

Yield: 9
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 40 minutes

You'll Need:

For the lasagna subs:

  • 9 ciabatta rolls
  • garlic butter, divided
  • 9 cooked lasagna noodles, divided
  • meat sauce, divided
  • 9 slices of cheese, divided
  • ⅔ cup cream cheese, divided
  • 2 cups shredded cheese, divided

For the meat sauce:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 oz bacon, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 14 oz crushed tomatoes

For the garlic butter:

  • ¾ stick, softened
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • 1 garlic clove, minced

Here's How:

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and boil the lasagna noodles in lightly salted water. Heat some olive oil in a pan over medium heat and sauté the diced bacon and onions. Add the ground beef and season with salt and pepper. Once the ground beef has browned, stir in the crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer.

2. Cut uniform rectangles in the ciabatta rolls and hollow out the insides.

3. For the garlic butter, combine the softened butter, parsley, and garlic and mix until smooth. Spread some garlic butter over the inside of each ciabatta roll.

4. Press the end of 1 cooked lasagna noodle into the bottom of a ciabatta roll so that it sticks to the garlic butter. Repeat with the rest of the cooked lasagna noodles and ciabatta rolls.

5. Spread a tablespoon of the meat sauce over the lasagna noodle in the ciabatta roll, fold the noodle over the meat sauce, and firmly press down. Repeat with the other ciabatta rolls.

6. Place a slice of cheese on top of the folded lasagna noodle, followed by another portion of meat sauce. Fold the lasagna noodle over once again and repeat with the rest of the ciabatta rolls.

7. Place the ciabatta rolls in a baking pan. Spoon a dollop of cream cheese onto each roll and sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Transfer the pan to the oven and cook at 350°F for 25 minutes.

These hand-held lasagna subs work great as an appetizer, finger food, party snack, or even an afternoon indulgence while sprawled out on the couch. No fork, no knife, no problem!
