Put your next watermelon on the grill. Delightfully refreshing!

Smoky flavor, the smell of charcoal burning and the promising sizzle of meat dripping into the embers: All of these things turn a nice evening into a perfect one. Have a sudden desire to roll your grill out from wherever it's hiding? Before you do, be sure to make a trip to the fruit section of the supermarket. Although you won't believe it, there's a fruit that's perfect for the grill. It's time to rearrange your steaks, hot dogs, and ears of corn and make room for watermelon!

You will need:

  • 1/4 watermelon
  • lime juice
  • olive oil
  • salt
  • cilantro

Here's how:

  1. Take 1/4 of a watermelon, and cut off the ends. Cut the remaining melon into six thick slices and lay them flat.
  2. Put a bit of lime juice into a small bowl and using a brush, apply the juice to one side of your watermelon slices. Next, add a coat of olive oil. Flip the slices over and follow the same procedure.
  3. Sprinkle a bit of salt (to taste) and place the watermelon on the grill, cooking for three minutes on both sides.
  4. Before serving, add another splash of lime juice and garnish with cilantro.

The texture of the watermelon changes a bit when grilled, but don't let that deter you. Combined with lime and cilantro, the final result is not only delightful, but eye-catching as well! Even if you're skeptical at first, we can guarantee that you'll soon be asking for seconds. Enjoy!
