Fine ingredients, great taste: Crispy Rooster Rolls

Anyone who likes eating chips will understand the annoyance of opening the bag and finding nothing more than crumbs because the bag got crushed by the heavy stuff in the shopping cart. But never fear. For anyone who's ever had their big plans for an evening in front of the TV enjoying their chips ruined, these Crispy Rooster Rolls can make things right.

You'll need:

  • 7 oz tortilla chips
  • 1 chicken breast
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • 4 slices white bread
  • 4 slices soft cheese
  • 1/2 cup pickled peppers
  • 3.5 oz cheese

Here's how:

  1. Put the tortilla chips into a freezer bag and turn them into crumbs by using a glass or something similar to crush them. Put the crushed chips in one bowl, the flour in a second bowl and the egg in a third.
  2. Cut the chicken breast into four strips, season them with salt and pepper and then dip them first into the flour, then the egg, and lastly, the chips. Brown the strips in a pan until they are crispy.
  3. Cut the crusts off the bread slices and roll them out thin with a rolling pin. Place a slice of soft cheese, one of the crispy chicken strips, as well as a piece of pepper on each one and then roll them up.
  4. Stick a toothpick through each of the rolls so they stay in place, sprinkle them with cheese, and bake in a preheated oven for 10 minutes at 375°F.

Next time you're in the supermarket, look and see if anyone has a bag of chips at the very bottom of their shopping cart with heavy cans and bottles. From now on, you'll have an inkling which dish they'll be preparing once they get home.
