Time for a bit of gardening with Chocolate Mousse Flower Pots

When the grass is getting long and the flower beds need weeding, you know it's that time of year again. Yes, summer usually announces its arrival to the whirring tune of mowers and hedge trimmers as we try to get our gardens back into some semblance of order after months of neglect. If you're a city slicker, it may instead mean that you're spending more time tending to your plants on the balcony. Either way, all that hard work can sure work up a mean appetite. And our latest recipe is the perfect summertime treat that brings that garden feeling right into the kitchen. So ditch your garden forks for a moment and get the dessert spoons out!

You'll need:

  • 1 cup chocolate
  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4/5 cup whipping cream
  • 14 Oreo cookies (or any similar cookies with a high cocoa content)
  • mint as decoration

Here's how:

  1. Melt the chocolate and mix it with the cream cheese and vanilla extract. Then carefully fold the mixture into the whipped up cream.
  2. Split the Oreos in half (as many do anyway!). Scrape away the filling and eat it up — the filling isn't needed for our Chocolate Mousse Flower Pots. Crush up the cookies until they have a soil-like consistency.
  3. Fill up drinking glasses with the chocolate mousse and sprinkle the cookie soil on top. For the finishing touch, "plant" a sprig of mint into the soil.

You can also go one step further and make small signs for identifying the various species of chocolate plants you've created. So there you have it — these tasty flower pots really are the perfect dessert for you green-thumbed chocoholics out there!
