Chocolate Christmas Ornaments With A Mousse Filling

Now that you have your Christmas tree up and decorated, you're going to want to hang these beautiful Christmas ornaments on it. Careful, though: the ornaments we're talking about might look like the real thing, but they're completely edible. Filled with smooth, creamy mousse, these chocolate balls look beautiful and are fully functioning Christmas tree ornaments, but unlike your other Christmas decorations, you're going to want to eat them right up!

You'll Need:

For the chocolate balls:

  • 2 bags white chocolate chips, tempered
  • white food coloring
  • green food coloring
  • red food coloring
  • silicone mold

For the mousse filling:

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • ⅔ cup heavy cream, heated
  • 1¼ cups whipped cream
  • ¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate flakes
  • 2 tbsp pistachio cream
  • 2 tbsp cherry jam

Extra:

  • mini peanut butter cups
  • Christmas string
  • gold edible glitter
  • silver edible glitter

Here's How:

1. Temper the white chocolate and add white food coloring to make the other colors pop even more. Divide the chocolate evenly between 3 bowls.

2. Color one of the bowls with red food coloring and a second bowl with green food coloring.

3. Pour the chocolate into a silicone mold, spread it out evenly with a brush, and let the chocolate set at room temperature. Refrigerate the mold later to allow the chocolate to harden completely, then remove the chocolate spheres from the mold.

4. For the filling, pour heated heavy cream over the white chocolate chips and mix until the chocolate has completely melted. Let the mixture cool, fold in the whipped cream, and evenly divide the white chocolate mousse between 3 bowls.

5. Mix the semi-sweet chocolate flakes into the first bowl.

6. Mix the cherry jam into the second bowl.

7. Mix the pistachio cream into the third bowl and briefly refrigerate all 3 bowls.

8. Place one chocolate sphere of each color on a small bowl for stability and fill with the matching mousse.

9. Poke a toothpick through the center of each mini peanut butter cup.

10. Tie together the ends of some Christmas string and guide each set through the mini peanut butter cups.

11. Brush golden edible glitter over each mini peanut butter cup.

12. Heat a knife and pass it over each filled chocolate sphere to smooth out the edges.

13. Place the knotted end of the Christmas string on the edge of the chocolate sphere and top with the matching unfilled chocolate sphere. Lightly press down, push the Reese's cup toward the ball, and fix it in place with some melted chocolate.

14. Decorate the chocolate Christmas balls with gold and silver edible glitter and refrigerate.

15. Now all that's left to do is to serve the chocolate ornaments or to hang them on your Christmas tree. Now that's Christmassy!
