9 Hearty Casseroles

Some dishes just taste like childhood. A bite is enough to bring you back to cozy evenings with the family, and simple yet delicious meals that somehow always turn out well. Baked spaghetti with sausage falls right into this category. Because you simply can’t go wrong with a savory combo of tomato sauce and sausage. And the best part: You’ll save on dishwashing. Let’s get cooking!

Why Baked Spaghetti with Sausage is the Perfect Weeknight Dinner

Baked spaghetti with sausage is an easy oven dish that only requires one baking dish. You save on dishes, time, and effort—which is especially great after a long workday. At the same time, spaghetti baked in the oven turns out incomparably crispy.

Preparation could hardly be any easier: First, cut the sausages into slices and fry them directly in the baking dish with a little oil. This is best done on a gas stove. Otherwise, make sure that you have a baking dish that is suitable for electric or induction hobs. Alternatively, you can also use a frying pan. Add chopped onions and garlic and sauté briefly. Deglaze everything with chopped tomatoes, broth, and a little cream. This step will gives your dish its signature rich and flavorful creaminess. Next, add the uncooked spaghetti directly into the sauce, ensuring it’s fully covered with liquid for even, thorough cooking.

And off it goes into the oven. Let the dish simmer for about half an hour. Stir occasionally so that nothing burns. If your baked spaghetti with sausage seems too dry, add a splash of broth. You’ll know the dish is ready when the spaghetti is al dente. Sprinkle it with some cheese if you like, or garnish with fresh herbs. Voila! A quick and easy pasta dish for the whole family is ready!

BAKED SPAGHETTI WITH SAUSAGE

  • Prep time: 15 min
  • Cook time: 30 min
  • Total time 45 min

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 sausages e.g., bratwurst or another hearty sausage
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 (14 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp paprika powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 ⅓ cups spaghetti
  • 1 cup grated cheese, optional
  • Some fresh herbs e.g., parsley or basil

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 390 °F.
  2. Slice the sausages.
  3. Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large baking dish or frying pan on the stove. Fry the sausage slices in it for 2–3 minutes, until they are lightly browned. Add the onions and garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the diced tomatoes, broth, and heavy cream. Season with paprika powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  6. Place uncooked spaghetti directly into the sauce and press in lightly so that it is covered with liquid. Add a little water if necessary.
  7. Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes. Stir every 10 minutes so that the spaghetti cooks evenly. If the liquid reduces too much, add a splash of water or broth.
  8. Optionally, sprinkle grated cheese over the baked spaghetti with sausage and return it to the oven for another 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden. Remove the dish from the oven and garnish with fresh herbs.
