OVEN-BAKED MACARONI ALLA MAMMA

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 14 oz ground meat (beef and pork blend or your preferred variety)
  • 2 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 2 cups tomato purée
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 Tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • A pinch of sugar
  • 12 oz macaroni
  • 3/4 cup crème fraîche
  • 1 cup shredded cheese

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Peel and chop the onion and garlic.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan and brown the ground meat vigorously. Add the onions and garlic and stir in the tomato paste.
  3. Deglaze with the broth and pureed tomatoes. Bring to a boil. Season with pepper, salt, herbs, and a pinch sugar. Let the sauce simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  5. Place the macaroni in a baking dish, then mix in the meat sauce and crème fraîche.
  6. Finally, sprinkle the shredded cheese on top and bake for 30 minutes.

Note

If you prefer the cheese to be softly melted, cook the macaroni in the oven for 20 minutes, then sprinkle cheese on top and bake for another 10 minutes.
