4 Easy Snacks With Hot Dogs And Pizza Dough

Hot dogs are one of the most beloved summer foods – after all, what would a BBQ or cookout be without one?! But instead of just tossing the wiener in a regular ol' bun, why not try something new? We've come up with 4 fun hot dog recipes using pizza dough to shake things up a bit!

1. Hot Dog Flowers

Yield: 3
Prep Time:
5 minutes
Cooking Time:
15 minutes

You'll Need:

  • pizza dough
  • 3 hot dogs
  • 1 whisked egg for the egg wash

Here's How:

1.1 Completely roll each hot dog in pizza dough and seal the ends.

1.2 Make 6 evenly-spaced, deep incisions in each wrapped hot dog, making sure not to cut all the way through.

1.3 Form a wrapped hot dog into a circle, fold the 2 end pieces over each other, and push the second-to-last piece into the center of the circle. Repeat with the rest of the wrapped hot dogs.

1.4 Place the hot dog flowers on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and brush the egg wash over the pizza dough. Transfer the baking tray to a preheated oven and cook at 350°F for 15 minutes.

2. Tornado Dogs

Yield: 3
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes

You'll Need:

  • 3 hot dogs
  • pizza dough

Here's How:

2.1 Skewer each hot dog and cut the hot dogs at an angle, turning the skewers so that the cuts become spiral.

2.2 Carefully slide the hot dogs apart, spreading the meat spirals over the wooden skewers.

2.3 Cut the pizza dough into 3 thin strips and roll them out to the length of the skewers.

2.4 Wrap 1 dough strip around each skewer, filling the gaps between the hot dog spirals. Place the tornado dogs on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and cook in a preheated oven at 350°F for 15 minutes.

3. Hasselback Hot Dogs

Yield: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes

You'll Need:

  • 2 hot dogs
  • pizza dough
  • ketchup

Here's How:

3.1 Place each hot dog between 2 wooden skewers and make several thinly-spaced incisions in the hot dogs – the skewers will prevent the knife from cutting all the way through.

3.2 Place each hasselback hot dog on a piece of pizza dough and cut out an oval shape around the hot dog.

3.3 Fold the pizza dough up around the sides of each hot dog and brush ketchup over the hot dogs. Place the hasselback hot dogs on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and cook in a preheated oven at 350°F for 15 minutes.

4. Hot Dog Muffins

Yield: 6
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes

You'll Need:

  • 2 hot dogs
  • pizza dough
  • 1 whisked egg for the egg wash

Here's How:

4.1 Cut off the ends of the hot dogs and then cut each hot dog into 3 equal pieces.

4.2 Divide the pizza dough into 6 equal pieces and form them into circles. Use a small shot glass or something that's about the same diameter as the hot dog to cut out the center of each dough circle.

4.3 Stick a hot dog piece in each dough hole and place the hot dog muffins in a greased muffin pan. Brush the egg wash over the pizza dough, transfer the muffin pan to a preheated oven, and cook at 350°F for 15 minutes.

No matter which hot dog you choose, be sure to serve them with ketchup and mustard for a true dipping experience!
