3 Sweet Easter Treats

Are you beyond bored with the same ol' Easter eggs and store-bought chocolate bunnies you see every year? We feel you, we see you, and we hear you. Sure, there's a certain sense of nostalgia attached to the classics, but you've got to switch things up every once in a while, right? So we've gone above and beyond the call of duty and managed to come up with 3 sweet Easter treats, the likes of which you've never seen before!

1. Chocolate Easter Egg Piñatas

Yield: 3
Prep Time: 60 minutes
Cooking Time: 90 minutes
Difficulty Level: Advanced

You'll Need:

  • 6 hard-boiled eggs
  • melted white chocolate
  • melted milk chocolate
  • Easter M&M's

Here's How:

1.1 Wrap the eggs in plastic wrap and seal each one with a piece of tape.

1.2 Dip the plastic-wrapped eggs halfway in the melted white chocolate and let the chocolate set.

1.3 Dip the white chocolate-coated, plastic-wrapped eggs halfway in the melted milk chocolate and let the chocolate set.

1.4 Remove the plastic wrap and eggs from the chocolate egg halves, place them on a glass with the opening facing up, and fill 3 of the egg halves with Easter M&M's.

1.5 Heat a knife with a lighter, run it over the edges of the empty egg halves, and glue them to the egg halves filled with M&M's. Now all you have to do to enjoy your chocolate Easter egg piñatas is smash them open!

2. Easter Rice Krispies Pops

Yield: 4-6
Prep Time: 60 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Difficulty Level: Moderate

You'll Need:

  • 1 tbsp + 1 tsp butter
  • ½ package (5 oz) marshmallows
  • 3 cups rice Krispies cereal
  • Easter cookie cutters
  • cake pop sticks
  • melted chocolate in different colors
  • sprinkles

Here's How:

2.1 Melt the marshmallows and butter in a double boiler or in the microwave and stir the mixture until well combined.

2.2 Add the Rice Krispies cereal and mix until combined.

2.3 Line a 6 x 9-inch baking tray with parchment paper and spread the Rice Krispies mixture on it. Feel free to use parchment paper and a rolling pin to make sure everything is evenly distributed.

2.4 Brush vegetable oil over the Easter-themed cookie cutters and cut out the desired shapes from the Rice Krispies mass.

2.5 Insert cake pop sticks in the cut-out shapes and allow them to harden. Try dipping the cake pop sticks into melted chocolate beforehand to make them stick better.

2.6 Dip the Easter pops in melted chocolate and decorate them with sprinkles.

3. Jello Easter Eggs

Yield:
Prep Time: 60 minutes
Cooking Time: 300 minutes
Difficulty Level: Advanced

You'll Need:

  • 6 large eggs
  • ¼ box blue jello + ½ cup water + 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ box green jello + ½ cup water + 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ box yellow jello + ½ cup water + 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ box red jello + ½ cup water + 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp plain yogurt, divided

Here's How:

3.1 Score the thicker part of the eggs with a sharp, small knife and carefully poke a small hole in the shell. Puncture the egg skin with a toothpick and use it to whisk the egg. Let the whisked egg flow out of the hole, and once the eggs are empty, place the shells in a pot of water, bring to a boil, remove the eggshells, and let them dry.

3.2 Mix each jello powder color with the sugar and hot water. Divide each color between 2 bowls and add 1 tbsp of plain yogurt to one of the blue bowls, 1 tbsp of plain yogurt to one of the green bowls, 1 tbsp of plain yogurt to one of the yellow bowls, and 1 tbsp of plain yogurt to one of the red bowls.

3.3 Place the dried eggshells in a carton with the hole facing up.

3.4 Fill a syringe with the blue jello, inject the first layer in the eggshells, and refrigerate. Once the blue jello has set, add a layer of the blue yogurt jello and refrigerate again. Continue layering (green jello, green yogurt jello, yellow jello, yellow yogurt jello, red jello, red yogurt jello) until the eggs are full, making sure to refrigerate the eggshells after each layer. Let the final jello eggs set overnight.

These Easter desserts make a fantastic alternative to your standard Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies. They also make a great gift for everyone, young and old alike! Happy Easter!
