Sample Mexican-Italian Fusion With 3 Tasty Pasta Burrito Recipes

Tex-Mex cuisine is beloved the entire world over, particularly because it combines the best of two worlds: Mexican food with a southwestern American influence. We're big fans of any kind of culinary fusion pairing the best dishes from one country with another, so we thought we'd try our hand at mixing and matching Italian food and Mexican food. Call it what you want: Mexicalian, Italico, Ita-Mex, Mex-Ital... all we know is that it's delicious and it's here to stay. Prego, de nada!

1. Spaghetti & Meatballs Burrito

You'll need:

  • 9 oz ground meat
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • pepper
  • oil for frying
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, diced
  • 7 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • pepper
  • 9 oz cooked spaghetti noodles
  • 1 tortilla
  • 3 slices mozzarella cheese
  • oil for frying
  • herb butter
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan

Here's how:

1. Mix the ground meat with oregano and pepper and form small meatballs by rolling the meat in the palms of your hands. Fry the meatballs in plenty of oil until browned.

2. Remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside. Sauté the onion and garlic in the same pan until golden brown and then stir in the tomato sauce and seasonings. Stir in the meatballs and then add the cooked spaghetti noodles to the simmering sauce.

3. Place 2 slices of mozzarella cheese in the middle of the tortilla. Add the spaghetti and meatballs from the pan and place a third slice of cheese on top. Carefully fold the burrito as shown in the video and place it in the pan with plenty of oil. Evenly cook the burrito on all sides until golden brown and then brush with herb butter. Sprinkle some parmesan cheese on top to garnish.

2. Pasta Carbonara Burrito

You'll need:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 3½ oz cubed ham
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3⅓ fl oz cream
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 9 oz cooked spaghetti noodles
  • 1 tortilla
  • 3 slices mozzarella cheese
  • oil for frying
  • herb butter
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan

Here's how:

1. Heat the butter in a pan and then add the cubed ham and onion. Pour in the cream and season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper and stir everything together with a whisk. Stir in the egg yolk and then add the cooked spaghetti noodles.

2. Continue with Step #3 from the first recipe and you'll be enjoying this creamy variation in no time!

3. Chicken Pesto Burrito

You'll need:

  • 2 chicken breasts
  • oil for frying
  • 4 tbsp basil pesto
  • 1 tortilla
  • 3 slices mozzarella cheese
  • oil for frying
  • herb butter
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan

Here's how:

1. Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and fry them in oil until golden brown. Stir in the pesto sauce and add the cooked spaghetti noodles.

2. Continue with Step #3 from the first recipe and get ready to enjoy your Italian burrito!
