Apple Cake The Way It's Supposed To Be – With Baked Fruit & Cinnamon!

You have to admit that every cake that comes fresh from the oven fills the kitchen and our senses with madly tempting aromas. Apple cake is one of the best, giving off the scent of spicy happiness with it's delicious combination of cinnamon and fruit. But you won't get your fill from nostalgia alone: go get out the mixing bowl and let's start!

You'll need:

  • 2 apples
  • 3 tsp cinnamon
  • 1½ cups flour
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup brown sugar

For the icing:

  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk

Here's how:

Peel and core the apples, then cut them into cubes. Mix these well with 2 tsp of the cinnamon.

Mix the flour, butter, vanilla extract, milk, eggs, white sugar, and baking powder in a large bowl, stirring until you have a smooth batter.

Fill a baking dish with half the batter and cover with half the cinnamon-apples.

Now pour the rest of the batter into the form and place the remaining apple cubes on top. Mix together the last tsp of cinnamon and brown sugar, then sprinkle it over the apples.

Bake the cake in a pre-heated oven at 350° F for 50 minutes.

As soon as the cake has cooled off, stir the powdered sugar in with the milk to make your icing. Then pour it carefully in pretty stripes over the cake.

After baking, wait awhile before airing out the kitchen. You'll want to keep that divine aroma around as long as possible!

Breathe in deeply and gaze upon your handiwork: you've recreated the apple cake of long ago, the one we all dream about from childhood — and now all that's left to do is eat, and enjoy your memories!
