Perfect snack: mini cordon bleu with Babybel cheese filling

It has happened to everyone: you go to the frozen food section to pick up some veggies, and your eyes fall upon a package of deep-fried snacks, begging to be microwaved or baked. Usually, they are filled with cheese, meat, and other tasty ingredients. You remember how easy they are to prepare, enchanted by the idea of stringy, cheesy goodness. Before you know it, you become weak and grab a package, if not two. With this recipe, there is no longer any need to reheat frozen snacks. Why bother when you can make something at home that is just as easy, and a hundred times more delicious? Let’s face it: everything tastes better when freshly made!

You will need (for 6 servings):

  • 6 slices of ham
  • 6 Babybel cheese wheels
  • flour
  • breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • vegetable oil

Here's how:

  1. Cut each slice of ham into two strips. Wrap each of the strips around one cheese wheel, making sure that the cheese is covered in ham on all sides.
  2. Place the flour, breadcrumbs, and eggs into three separate bowls. Roll each of the ham-wrapped cheese wheels into these ingredients in the following order: flour, egg, breadcrumbs. If you prefer particularly thick breading, roll the cheese wheels once more in the egg and breadcrumbs.
  3. Finally, fry the mini cordon bleus on both sides in vegetable oil until golden brown.

How could a frozen food product ever compete with these cute, homemade, bite-sized delights? If you prefer something more spicy or adventurous, prepare with a cheese and meat of your choice. Enjoy!
