Sometimes even the most ordinary things hide a big secret. Take this next recipe for instance... at first glance these little balls look a bit like hamburger buns waiting for the toppings. But believe it or not, everything is already there just waiting to be discovered with the first bite. Sink your teeth into these tasty little treats and you'll get a big, yummy, cheeseburger surprise!

You'll need (for 6 portions):

  • oil for frying
  • 2 oz bacon, diced
  • 10 oz ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 3 tsp pickles, diced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 package pizza dough
  • cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Here's how:

  1. Fry the bacon in hot oil and add the ground beef and onions. Salt and pepper the meat while it's frying.
  2. When the meat is ready, put it in a bowl and mix it with mustard, ketchup, pickles and egg.
  3. Roll out the pizza dough and make two rows of cheese with three pieces in each row. Add one or two tbsp of meat to the top of each piece of cheese. Use a small bowl to cut out the dough around the cheese and meat. Form the dough into a ball and press the dough closed.
  4. Place the balls on a baking tray with the sealed end on the bottom. Baste them with egg yolk and sprinkle on some sesame seeds. Bake for 15 minutes at 375° F.

These hearty little bundles of yumminess are perfect as a snack or as an appetizer for your next dinner party. But once you start eating them it can be hard to stop, so don't put too many out or your guests won't have room for the main course... Enjoy!
