Bang! Bang! Broccoli: The crispy treat with a fiery kick
Like our parents always said, it's important to eat your greens. Yet when we get the munchies, boiled or raw vegetables are hardly the ideal snack we crave. We often find that overcooked broccoli gets particularly bad press for lacking in texture and flavor. But it really doesn't have to be this way — if you know how to prepare your veggies right, they're just as flavorful as any tasty side-dish or snack. So why not try this neat trick to add some spice to your broccoli and give it that extra bite.
- 1 broccoli
- 4/5 cup flour
- 3/5 cup corn starch
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp chili sauce
- 1 tsp vinegar
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups breadcrumbs
- oil for frying
- Cut the florets from the broccoli. If you want to, you can also keep the stalk, peel it, chop it up, and use it later in the marinade.
- For the marinade, mix the flour, corn starch, salt, chili sauce, vinegar, and milk. Stir until the mixture is smooth.
- Soak the broccoli florets in the marinade before covering them in the breadcrumbs and frying in hot oil.
If you like your food spicy, add some extra chili sauce to the marinade and garnish the finished broccoli bites with sweet chili sauce. So there you go — eating one of your five-a-day has never been so satisfying! Perfect as a barbecue side or a movie night snack, these fiery delights are sure to go out with a bang!
