Tasty filled French bread with baguettes fresh from the bakery!

A French classic, baguettes can be found in any bakery worth its salt. These days, filled baguettes are particularly popular for a quick lunchtime snack when you're on the go. While cutting the baguette in half is the standard way to create a sandwich, we've come up with a ingenious method for filling your French bread. Here are three of our tastiest lunch ideas using hollowed-out baguettes...

1. The Exotic Chicken Baguette

You'll need:

  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 3⅓ fl oz coke
  • 1¾ fl oz soy sauce
  • oil for frying
  • 8¾ oz cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp red chili, finely chopped
  • 1¾ oz diced green pepper
  • 1 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 baguette
  • grated cheese for the garnish

Here's how:

1. Start by cutting the chicken breasts into small pieces. Next, mix the coke with the soy sauce and add the chicken to the marinade.

2. Heat up the oil in the pan and cook the marinated chicken through.

3. Add the meat to all the other ingredients (except for the baguette and cheese for the garnish) in a bowl and mix everything well.

4. Now cut away both ends of the baguette and remove the inside. Do so by cutting around the inside of the baguette and pushing everything out with the end of a cooking spoon. You can use the inside of the baguette for other purposes.

5. Use a spoon to fill the baguette with the chicken and cream cheese mixture. Place the ends back onto the baguette.

6. Wrap the aluminum foil, but keep the top of the baguette uncovered. To finish, sprinkle on some grated cheese and bake the baguette at 360°F for 10 minutes with the top and bottom heat on.

2. The Fresh Salmon Baguette

  • 8¾ oz cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 3½ oz smoked salmon, chopped up
  • 1 tbsp dill
  • 1¾ oz cucumber, diced
  • 1 tsp, mustard
  • black pepper
  • lemon zest
  • 1 baguette
  • grated cheese for the garnish

Here's how:

1. Add all the ingredients (except for the baguette and the cheese for the garnish) to a bowl and mix everything carefully.

2. Next, cut away both ends of the baguette and remove the inside as in the first example. The following steps are also the same as the above.

3. The Salami & Goat's Cheese Baguette

You'll need:

  • 8¾ oz cream cheese
  • 1¾ oz red pepper, diced
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped up
  • 1 oz salami, chopped up
  • 1¾ oz goat's cheese, diced
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme
  • 1 oz black olives, chopped up
  • 1 oz dried tomatoes, finely chopped up
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped up
  • 1 baguette
  • cheese for the garnish

Here's how:

1. Add all the ingredients (except for the baguette and the cheese for the garnish) to a bowl and mix everything carefully.

2. Next, follow steps 4 to 6 from the first recipe.

Of course, there are many more ways you can fill your hollowed-out French bread. As well as being a great lunch item, these delicious baguettes are perfect for garden parties and picnics this summer.
